Homemade Korean Fried Chicken

We are back to regular programming for even more food! Haha. A few months ago I wanted to finally try to make my own korean fried chicken. I so love 4Fingers fried chicken but they are expensive. So why not make my own.

Cut by Wolfgang Puck

When you ask "where is the best steak in Singapore?", most people will probably mention "Cut" by Wolfgang Puck at the Marina Bay Sands Mall. So that's where we went last July :-).

Bedrock Bar and Grill

This happened around June of this year when I got news about getting my new job. Luckily, we had just purchased The Entertainer app and boy this app has really saved us loads of money in eating out. We were glad Bedrock was part of the list as it was rated as one of the best steaks in Singapore. Perfect way to celebrate a new blessing!

Holiday Inn Express Clarke Quay Singapore

Alfian and I would periodically do staycations here in Singapore if we aren't able to do a quick trip over the weekend. Holiday Inn Express recently opened so we decided to try it out. This was earlier this year. I didn't expect to love this hotel as much as I did as "express" usually means budget or a very basic hotel.

Baking Etcetera

Earlier this year, I was on a baking frenzy. I just woke up one day and said I would like to make beautiful cupcakes haha. This was before the Cohen phase.

I was so happy with this Blueberry and Raspberry Cheesecake. I got the recipe from BBC Good Food, click here. I prefer using fresh than canned fruits as they look more colorful and vibrant. Plus, fresh fruits are healthier (to balance off the sinful cheesecake haha).

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

Well hello my dear 7 readers! hehe. I couldn't think of any other title about my absence in the blogging world haha. Anyway, here I am still trying.

First of all, to get this out of the way, I'm not on the Cohen diet anymore - which is why you haven't seen any update about my diet and my weight on the ticker in this blog (I'll just keep the ticker there for remembrance haha). Boo to me. I will probably most likely be fat obese my whole life but as long as I'm happy I think that's what matters. I'm sure a lot of people out there are judging me saying I'm a lazy bum and a quitter for broadcasting about my diets but continuously failing. Well, it is what it is. I will just continue to try and eat healthier (most of the time) and just be happy.

Updates, updates, updates...

I found a new job! Which is why I've been absent from blogging for some time now. I had to go through 5 interviews in the past few months so it was really a tough process. I'm very ecstatic about this new job! I feel really blessed. Praise God! I've been with my company now for 4 years and although I do have my complaints here, this job gave me really good work experience and this company is one of the best I have worked for.

PS Cafe, Ann Siang Hill

We don't really eat out at fancy cafes or restaurants very frequently as you know Singapore is now the most expensive city in the world (ugh). However, last Saturday, we decided to go to PS Cafe in Ann Siang Hill since we haven't really "gone out" in a while. Our weekends are mostly just window shopping or movies so why not splurge a bit haha.

Fitness Blog #22 - Cohen Diet: Day 53

Wow, I can't believe it's almost 2 months since I started Cohen. Sorry I didn't update for the past few weeks regarding my progress as I was in Dubai from 12th to 20th April.

Confession: I let go in Dubai. The food was too good and I was in a festive mood so I just put Cohen on hold. In fact I was so sure I gained a lot of weight during that period so I was surprised to know I only gained 0.8kg when I got back haha. Probably because I still had some restrain in Dubai. I mostly shared meals with Alf. Good thing is I managed to lose the weight I gained  as soon as I got back and even more on the succeeding weigh in.

As of 30th April, I have lost a total of 8.8kg/19.36lbs (11.3kg/24.86lb since my heaviest). I'll take it!!! I know I could have lost more but honestly I am not bothered at all. I am happy I am consistently losing weight every weigh in despite my cheating. I have never posted any weight gain (so far). That is a little over 1kg per week and I am only on my 7th/8th week. If I keep up the pace, by the end of Cohen, I would have lost at least 24kg. My goal weight of 80kg (set by Cohen) is honestly a little too thin for me. I will still keep it in my ticker just so that I know how far away I am from my "goal" weight but I will be happy with 100-110kg. Still overweight, probably even obese by technical standards, but this was my weight before coming to Singapore. I could wear 36 inch jeans that time and a size Large/XL shirt. I am happy with that. I don't think I will ever be thin. Fact is I love food.

Bali, Indonesia

It's been over a week since I got back from Dubai. I'm still on a Dubai high. I have been so enamored (wow heavy word haha) with Dubai that I am seriously considering to relocate there if I find a job. Anyway, been busy as usual so before I post about my Dubai trip, let me wrap up my Bali trip. I'm also due for an update on my Cohen diet. If you have been following my weight ticker, I updated it as of last week (yey on the continuous weight loss!).

Fitness Blog #19 - Cohen Diet: Day 15

Got busy yesterday that I wasn't able to post this. Last night, I had to cook my meals until Monday since tonight I will be busy packing as tomorrow is my flight to Bali. Anyway, this post is for yesterday's weigh-in. And well well well, I am so crazily ecstatic to announce I have already lost 5.6kg/12.32lbs (8.1kg/17.82lbs since my heaviest) and 4 inches off my belly!!! Wednesday is my weigh-day since it was the day I started Cohen on March 12.

Shangrila-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I was in KL over the weekend, 2 weekends ago, with my flatmates. My flatmate Kri works in the travel industry so luckily she had special room rates for Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur. The lobby layout looks very similar to the lobby of Shangri-La Makati in Manila, Philippines - ceiling to floor windows with "rainforest-like" views.

Fitness Blog #17 - Cohen Diet: Day 6

Day 6 and I'm still alive! Haha. I weighed myself this morning and I am so happy ecstatic with the weight loss! I am waiting for Wednesday to officially announce my weight loss as I want to do it on a weekly basis. Days 4 and 5 (Saturday and Sunday) were the hardest as we had an overnight trip to Kuala Lumpur. This tested my commitment and determination on the Cohen Program which meant I had to pack my food for at least a few meals. Breakfast is the easiest as I always have yogurt + splenda and an apple.

Fitness Blog #15 - Cohen Diet

The Fitness portion of this blog has been neglected if not forgotten. So here I am again trying for the nth time. I woke up one morning two weeks ago and said, I'm sick and tired of being fat obese. So I had 2 options in mind - the drastic lapband surgery or Dr' Cohen's "diet".

I scheduled both appointments on the same day so that I could quickly decide. First stop was Cohen's Lifestyle Centre at Novena Square. Luckily, I live in Balestier so it was a short walk away.

Cebu - The Tropical Paradise

My first trip for 2014 was to my dad's hometown, Cebu!!! My renter was moving out so I had to accompany my Mom to do inventory. Thus, we took it as a chance to go on a short holiday as well.

I'm sure for most of us foodies, the first thing you think of when you hear Cebu is LECHON (look up and drool). I cannot agree more with Anthony Bourdain that the best roast pork is indeed in Cebu. I've tasted Babi Guling in Ubud, Bali Indonesia and it doesn't compare (haha). My mom knew of a place where they sold whole roasted pork so we checked it out. I'm so sorry I forgot the name of the place but it's near Banilad in Cebu along the main road.

Fairmont Singapore

My flatmate Krizia works in the travel industry and she was able to score really cheap rates for us at the Fairmont Singapore last Chinese New Year. Thus, we decided to stay for a night during the 3-day weekend. We got it for around S$160 (net) a night which was extremely cheap compared to the usual rate of $370 for that long weekend. Sweet!

River Safari, Singapore

The first time I went to River Safari was in December last year when my brother was here. Early this year, I went back with Alf, also because I wasn't able to try the amazon river quest boat ride the first time I went.

Can't get enough of Bangkok!

I was in Bangkok for yet another weekend holiday in November 2013. I arrived on a late Thursday night and left Sunday. The last time I was in Bangkok was more than 4 years ago, when the airport railway link wasn't open yet. So I was very excited to get to try it.

ParkRoyal on Pickering, Singapore

We had a staycation at the ParkRoyal on Pickering last October and it truly was a staycation in every sense of the word. I wrote in my TripAdvisor review that it is the most beautifully designed hotel I have ever been to, hands-down!

Malacca (Melaka), Malaysia

Malacca was a revelation. Honestly, I had very low expectations for this place but I ended up loving the place. This was another weekend getaway during my birthday in October. I think we found the hotel+bus package on groupon or some similar website. Thank you Alf for this trip!

We stayed at the fairly new Hatten Hotel, whose lobby (photo above) smelled like a public restroom. That was really a disappointment as the hotel was not bad plus the rooms were very spacious.

Phuket, I'm back!

I was back in Phuket for a 3-day weekend getaway in August last year. This is what I love about Singapore actually, there are a lot of weekend places you could go to either by bus, boat or a short plane trip. Phuket is definitely one of the choices for a short holiday.

Smoothie King

The first time I saw Smoothie King as at 313 Somerset in Orchard. I had an impression actually that it was a locally-made brand but after googling, I found out it actually originated from New Orleans, Louisiana USA. I had a meeting the other day at the modernly-beautiful Marina Bay Financial Centre and saw Smoothie King at the Marina Bay Link Mall so I had to try it.

Mad for Garlic

I've never heard of this restaurant prior to eating here. It was our friend Ryz who suggested we eat her for our Pre-Christmas dinner last December. I also wanted to check out the new wing of Suntec so off we went.

I learned through their website that Mad For Garlic actually originated from Korea and is an Italian restaurant that specializes in garlic dishes. Wow. An Italian Korean restaurant. Now THAT is unique haha.

Jamie's Italian Restaurant, Singapore

Jamie's Italian opened here in Singapore at Vivo City last July 2013. Luckily, my office is just next door so I had the chance to eat here last December. As an avid fan of the Food Network, I really looked forward to eating here.

Poulet, Amazing French Roast Chicken

Poulet is another recent hit among foodies like me. They claim to have amazing french roast chicken. And I have to agree. The first time I tasted their tender chicken with the mushroom chardonnay sauce, I was in heaven. Hahaha.

Here's to more travels this 2014!

Happy New Year Everyone! It's another year of chasing our dreams, working hard, and hopefully more travels! :-) I've given up on making resolutions as I forget them as soon as I complete the list haha, so instead of that, I came up with a travel fund plan instead.

Early last year, I  bought this "piggy bank" that looks like a luggage. I haven't used it since so now is the perfect time to use it for this travel fund. Inspired by the 52-week money challenge that I've been seeing on Facebook, I came up with my own plan and modified it to make it achievable and realistic.
