So it's that time of the year again when we plan for our holiday trip. We were actually choosing among India, Australia or Spain and after many bouts of discussion, consideration and after visiting the recently concluded NATAS travel fair, we decided on Spain!!! :)
Though this time we decided to plan our own trip from scratch! Last year when we took a travel package tour to Turkey, it was actually tiring as you always had to wake up early and rush from point to point without having the flexibility to go where you want to go.
Good thing Qatar Airways currently has a promo (which ends today, 6 Mar), only $1,100 sgd for a roundtrip ticket to Barcelona via Doha, which we booked last night (Yey!).
The only spoiler is the 12-hr transit in Doha on the way back to SG - major major bummer! I called Qatar Airways to ask about on-arrival visa but not surprisingly Philippine passport holders aren't entitled to this. I have the option though to have the hotel sponsor for my visa but I don't want to go through all that trouble anymore, we'll just rough it out at the airport. Anyway, we found out the airport has the Oryx Lounge - US$39 for 6 hours.
I hope the Qatar economy class really looks this good
Our planned itinerary in Spain are as follows:
13 May 2011 - Departure from SG
14 May - Upon arrival in Barcelona, take high speed train to Madrid
14-16 May - Madrid
16-17 May - Cordoba
17-18 May - Granada, then take overnight train to Valencia
19 May - Valencia, whole day tour only then train to Barcelona
19 -21 May - Barcelona
22 May - Arrival in SG
So now, we're painstakingly finding the perfect hotels through booking.com and hotels.com. Thank god really for internet nowadays. We're also planning to get the 1-country unlimited pass from Eurail as we plan to take the train throughout the entire trip (cross-fingers that everything goes as planned or else there's always Spanair hehe).
Lastly, the most important hurdle of all is getting my Schengen Visa. My leaves are approved and I've completed the documents (aside from the hotel bookings) so I hope this shouldn't be a problem.
SO EXCITED!!! :)
