North Holland - Zaanse Schans Windmills, Volendam & Marken Island

Day 3 was our most anticipated trip of North Holland. I couldn't wait to see REAL windmills :-)

You can get your tickets from "Tours & Tickets" offices which were scattered all over Amsterdam... they gave you earphones which you could plug to the side of your seat and hear commentaries of the places you see on the road - quite fun and knowledge-enriching (I was amazed at how the commentaries were timed exactly on what you see out on the road).

 FINALLY!!!! :-)

TIP: There will be tourist traps in any group tour - I suggest you buy all your cheese at the airport after checking in. They're reasonably priced or even cheaper plus you don't have to worry about excess baggage...

I LOVE, LOVE, LURVEEE this shot! :-)
I think Bob was wandering somewhere, too bad he wasn't part of this picture...

At Volendam, we saw this huge replica of a Sausage! I wonder how long it would take us to finish this hahaha...

You have got to try the Fish & Chips at Volendam - the best!!!

My mom was teasing Aunty Beni for wearing sandals as it was quite cold = freezing feet, hehehe...

At Marken Island, we got to see a real wooden shoe factory. I didn't buy one though they came in big sizes, even up to size 14... I don't know where to wear them and they seemed quite uncomfortable...

Above is a video I made of the boat ride from Volendam to Marken Island, mixed with our trip to Efteling theme park (coming up in another post)...
Best of all, it's me singing Beyonce's "Love On Top" on the background hahaha :-)

Hi there. I would agree that cheese and windmills are a must on a trip to Holland!! My wife, Jean, and I, like you, spent a day at the village of Zaanse Schans where we got to see their large collection of windmills. Most people know that windmills were once a major part of the Dutch landscape, however today, as we all saw they are a rare thing to see as you drive around The Netherlands. For us, a trip to Holland just wouldn’t have been complete without seeing windmills in action. If anyone would like to check out the variety of windmills that we saw, they are at: http://frametoframe.ca/photo-essay-windmills-holland
