It's 2013 and I'm sure just like most people, we all resolve to lose weight this new year. It's been a lifetime battle and pretty much a yo-yo experience for me. I must thank my friend Ana Pauline Cruz for introducing me to this documentary about juice fasting. I tell you, I have never been so passionate about a "diet" and I hope this finally is the one for me.
I'm on Day 3 now (Day 4 actually as it's half past 1:30am, I had an evening nap and just woke up..) and I've lost 2.3kg (5 lbs). I can't wait to weigh myself this morning when I wake up to get my official weight for Day 4. The weight loss is unprecedented. Unbelievable. But what I'm really astonished about is the fact that I never thought in a million years I could survive without food.
In fact, before watching the documentary, I was very skeptical. I said who the hell can survive on just juice?! Seriously. And for someone like me who is addicted to food, I must admit, I didn't think it was possible. But I was wrong. For once, I'm happy I was wrong haha.
The documentary was very powerful. What really hit me was how quickly Joe and Phil lost the weight YET stayed healthy. In fact so healthy they were off their meds after the fast. I am turning 33 this year, and at this young age (I am still young right? haha) I am already taking meds for hypertension due to my elevated blood pressure, I've had bouts with gout, I've been having migraine and my skin is bad. I'm hoping that after my juice fast I don't need to deal with all these "diseases" that I believe are meant for people much older than me.
I'm also surprised that the juice tastes good. I'm ecstatic about the fact that I'm eating so much fruits and vegetables which normally I wouldn't eat in their solid form - and that's the reason why Joe feels strongly about juicing. It's like super-charging your drink with tons of nutrients, vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. I haven't been entirely strict actually as I eat roasted nuts when I feel I'm about to faint hahaha. I learned in the docu that micronutrients are basically found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and beans. Everything else are mAcronutrients. Thus, I chose nuts to snack on when I feel like I'm in a fog and floating haha :-P.
I urge you to go to http://fatsickandnearlydead.com/. You can download the documentary and read up on everything about juice fasting. He calls it "Reboot". In the same way that we tune-up our cars or clean up our disk space on our computers, we should also reboot our bodies and detoxify. Hence, juice fasting. I am glad that I have influenced quite a number of my friends in a short span of time that I've been on the fast. You will definitely encounter some people who think you're crazy or just want to bring you down but just ignore them. It's funny that when I'm fat and binging, people will scorn me. When I'm on a diet, people will also critic me, can you make up your mind? Haha.
Cheers to a healthy 2013! I'll keep you guys updated and I pray I can keep up and sustain this juice fast. Important thing is to maintain the healthy mindset once you're done with the fast. Take it as a jumpstart to a better you :-).
